Climate Health Implementation Manual : Intervention Guidance - Integration of Climate and Health Data : From First Steps to Advanced Climate-Health Data Systems
Overview & Synopsis
Climate change is reshaping patterns of disease, straining health services, and exposing populations to new and intensifying health risks. This guide shows how countries can integrate climate and health data in a phased, practical way. It draws from the Climate Health Implementation Manual (CHIM) Integration of Climate and Health Data Repository, which catalogs 10 evidence-based data integration interventions and 53 tools across six focus areas: surveillance and monitoring, risk assessment and modeling, early warning and response systems, data platforms and infrastructure, governance and coordination, and capacity building for data-driven decision-making. The World Health Organization (WHO) Early Warning and Response System for Climate-Sensitive Diseases (EWARS) connects meteorological triggers with disease surveillance to enable proactive response. The World Bank Climate Change Knowledge Portal provides country-specific climate data that can inform health planning at national and subnational levels. The challenge is not tool availability, but implementation support, including training, data governance frameworks, interoperability standards, and sustained technical assistance that enable countries to put these tools into routine use.
