Climate Health Implementation Manual : Intervention Guidance - Environmentally Sustainable Health Procurement : From First Steps to Advanced Climate Action in Health Commodity Procurement
Overview & Synopsis
Health systems are both vulnerable to climate change and significant contributors to global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, accounting for an estimated 4.4% of the global total. This guide shows how low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) can integrate climate considerations into health procurement in a phased, practical way. It draws from the Climate Health Implementation Manual (CHIM) Environmentally Sustainable Health Procurement Repository, which catalogs 34 evidence-based procurement interventions and 56 tools across three climate objectives: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building climate resilience in health supply chains, and minimizing environmental impacts that exacerbate climate vulnerability.
