»Protection and Limitations of Copyright for Scientific Publications. An Economic Analysis of Law«: German copyright protects the works of scientific authors and the investments of scientific publishers. However, as a prohibitive right, it also inhibits access to new knowledge which is a prerequisite for the creation of further scientific publications. In view of the rising prices of scientific publications as well as the emergence of modern technologies and publication options (e.g. open access), the question arises: How much copyright protection does academic science need?
