Viet Nam Macro Monitoring
Overview & Synopsis
Viet Nam’s growth remained strong in H1-2026, supported by robust exports and surging investment. However, the expansion became increasingly import-intensive, weakening the near-term net export contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) and adding pressure on the current account and foreign exchange reserves. Investment growth accelerated, led by the private sector and followed by FDI, pointing to continued investor confidence in Viet Nam’s medium-term prospects. Inflation eased in June, due to the replacement of RON95 with lower-priced E10-E5 gasoline from June 1 helped reduce transport costs. Credit growth moderated slightly but remained elevated, supporting investment, while tighter banking liquidity pushed up financing costs.
