Investing in Tomorrow : Strengthening Adolescent and Youth Health in Malawi
Overview & Synopsis
Malawi’s youthful population is a major development opportunity, yet poor adolescent and youth health outcomes are constraining progress. Adolescents and youth account for more than one-third of the population, and high rates of teenage pregnancy, child marriage, gender-based violence, HIV risk, poor nutrition, and limited mental health support continue to undermine education, productivity, and human capital. These challenges are especially acute for adolescent girls and young women. This report assesses the policy environment, service delivery, demand-side barriers, and digital opportunities affecting adolescents and youth aged 10-24 in Malawi, drawing on policy review, routine data, program evidence, and stakeholder consultations. Its central message is clear: Malawi has a solid policy foundation, but implementation is fragmented, underfunded, and uneven in reach and quality.
