The United Nations has organized numerous studies on the question of disarmament for development, addressing in particular the question of the economic impact of disarmament on economic activity, with or without redistribution of national public expenditure towards the Development Assistance. Regardless of the purely political question regarding the collective will to reduce the arms race, if not well prepared, a disarmament procedure can be dangerous for peace. It is therefore appropriate, at least on an economic level, to highlight the economic and social difficulties inherent in the reduction of economic activity in a country heavily involved in the production of weapons and jobs allocated to national defense. Several rules should be respected to give the greatest chance of success in disarmament for development.
