Overview & Synopsis

The reinforced concrete (RC) has been widely studied; particularly their mechanical behavior and physicochemical capacity. But on the other hand the RC repaired is more seldom studied by fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) solutions. In this study, the analysis of damage short RC beam behavior, the cracking level effect on ultimate strength of repaired test specimen, and the reliability concepts application to estimate the failure probability have been investigated to understand the damage progress of the repaired short RC beam. For these purposes, a 3-point bending test has been carried out to pre-damage the RC test specimens until 2 different damage levels were reached. The insertion of FRP rod (in carbon FRP or in glass FRP) into the short rectangular RC beam and the externally bonded of carbon FRP plate to the tension beam face were been employed as repair methods. The damage behavior of the repaired test specimen was been studied using the microscope long-distance and the Acoustic Emission technique. The repair concrete methods were successful, because the ultimate strength of all repaired test specimens was increased. Monte Carlo and FORM methods have been used to determine the failure probability of a rectangular short RC beam using 3-points bending test. The results of this reliability approach have permitted to graph these 3 parameters: ultimate strength of RC beam, variation coefficient and failure probability.
